Changes to LARC Insertion and Removal Items
From November 1 2025, as part of the new Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program, changes will be made to bulk billed long-active reversible contraceptive services (LARCs). These changes include:
-
Increasing fees for the existing LARC insertion and removal items (35503, 35506, 14206, 30062)
-
Introduction of new items for Nurse Practitioners for insertion and removal (82201, 82202, 82203)
-
Introduction of new loading items that will provide 40% of the fee of the relevant LARC administration item when bulk billed:
-
35501 for GPs and Specialists
-
82204 for Nurse Practitioners
For the loading item to be payable, the patient cannot be charged any out-of-pocket costs for any MBS items claimed in the LARC insertion or removal appointment, including any co-claimed items relating to provision of the LARC service.
Billing a LARC service and adding co-claimed loading items
To claim the relevant LARC service item and co-claim the loading item, providers must:
-
Meet all item requirements.
-
Bulk bill the patient for every eligible MBS item in the LARC service appointment (35503, 35506, 14206, 30062 for GPs and Specialists or 82201, 82202, 82203 for Nurse Practitioners).
-
Add the new co-claim item from the Finalise visit screen in the patient record (35501 for GPs and Specialists or 82204 for Nurse Practitioners).
-
The new loading item will be inserted above the co-claimed item and will derive a fee amount based on the percentage, in this case, 40%.
NOTE This new co-claim item can be added either before or after the relevant LARC service is added.
The calculation fee of the new co-claimed item will only take effect after the relevant LARC item (35506 in this example) has been added, as shown in the image below.
The new loading item will be inserted above the co-claimed item and will derive a fee amount based on the percentage, in this case that percentage is 40%.
Claiming on multiple items
When claiming on multiple items, such as an Implanon removal item (30062) and an Implanon insertion item (14206) in the same visit, the new loading items must be added for each relevant service performed.
To claim multiple loading items in the same visit, the provider must:
-
Meet all requirements.
-
Bulk bill the patient for every eligible MBS item in the LARC service appointment (35503, 35506, 14206, 30062 for GPs and Specialists or 82201, 82202, 82203 for Nurse Practitioners).
-
Add each relevant loading item for each LARC service item.
Incentives will be automatically ordered underneath the linked attendance item. This order will be retained in Billing History and when sent via claiming for bulk billing purposes.
NOTE Service details will be required when billing for 'duplicate' loading items.
